Life is a series of seasons and obstacles. Sometimes, the weight of responsibilities can crush your soul, spirit, mood, and mentality.
Not just that, but the more cortisol or stress you have in your system, the more it seems like there is a weight sitting there un-invited. It continues to individually grow with each new responsibility, Like a handyman building a wall of bricks on your shoulders. How do you spiritually combat that? The struggle of someone invisible sitting on your shoulders?
Let's talk about it and the easiest way to find relief.
Four by Four!
Despite the name, this is not a juicy cheeseburger with four stacked patties, but four steps to living spiritually lighter.
1~ Take a moment to just stand or if possible, sit. Dedicate the next four minutes to just thinking about every single responsibility you have that day, every responsibility for past and future. Allow your mind to wonder. In this moment, there is no judgement, let the stress come, no filter. Just let everything flow in and flow back out.
2~ Now that you have let your mind wonder, allowed yourself to "watch" your thoughts, and feel the intensity of it, it's time to let it go. Take the next four seconds and breathe in deeply. Four full seconds breathing in, imagining you're breathing in the Holly Spirit. Slow and controlled for that complete four seconds.
3~ Hold that same breath for four more seconds. Allow that breath to fill and touch every part of you. Collect your thoughts in those four seconds. Now is the time to grasp hold of them and be constructive in your control of them.
4~ Now slowly breathe out for four seconds. Imagine breathing those negative, consuming, overwhelming thoughts out. Imagine within those four seconds, you are leaving your worries, concerns, stress, ALL of it at the foot of the cross.
Repeat the breathing process three more times for a total of four times. Each time add additional thoughts, let go of them. Give them to God, Jesus, and the Holly Spirit. No matter what you are going through, God is there. He is your strength. We may not be able to do it alone, but with God the impossible becomes possible.
